Many new nootropics users struggle with the fact that Adrafinil may not be working for them as intended. It is a common scenario that many excited users run into. They often get hyped up by friends and forums that rave about the beneficial nootropic effects of adrafinil. Later, after trying it, the user may become very disappointed and may start wondering if the product they are using may be fake or low-quality.

Both adrafinil and modafinil can be hit or miss with first time nootropics users. The main problem with adrafinil is it has one more step of metabolism in the body than its counterpart, creating possible metabolism issues. You may find both of these eurogenics to not be working whilst your friend or acquaintances may be getting superb results with the same batch. So what on earth is the reason for this? Is adrafinil just snake oil science, or does it actually have beneficial nootropic effects?
First of all, it is important to understand that not every supplement or drug works the same in everyone. Secondly, it is important to understand adrafinil and modafinil are not stimulants in the classical sense. They are wakefulness enhancers and are intended to be just that. Many people complain, “well I can sleep on it so it must be fake”. Although this may seem counterproductive of a wakefulness enhancer, it doesn’t mean you cannot sleep if you don’t want to so using this as a basis for quality is not the best metric.
How to Tell if My Adrafinil Powder is Fake?
Unfortunately, many first time users of adrafinil who find it is not working as intended often blame the batch and start to suspect the product may be fake or low-purity. While there may be fake or bad batch products on the market, most reputable nootropics vendors with a good reputation will regularly test their batches and not send fake or low quality product to consumers.
So how to identify if your product is fake? You can examine it visually but this doesn’t always determine the purity. There are batches that may be white, off-white, pink or slightly reddish and all may have the same level of purity. So just because your adrafinil powder is white instead of peach or red, doesn’t mean it is not 99%+ purity.
Some say adrafinil should have a specific sulphur smell. While this may be true, we have not noticed a pronounced smell in any of our tested batches with high purity (doesn’t mean sulphur smelling batches are bad either and may just be a step or method of synthesizing it). We have sold both white and slightly reddish adrafinil with great purity and very slight odor. So if you have different batches of off-white, reddish-white, low odor or sulfur-like odor, doesn’t mean your adrafinil is fake or non-authentic.
Why Does Adrafinil Work So Well in Some?
There are many reasons as to why adrafinil may appear to work well in some and not so well in others. Firstly, metabolism is the most important. Remember that adrafinil can take up to 2-4 hours to come on strong due to its complex liver metabolism. Some may have quicker metabolism and others may have slower metabolism that may influence the speed or strength of adrafinil onset.
When it does reach peak levels in the blood, it may not be an overwhelming stimulant rush one might expect to believe. You may notice enhanced cognitive function, sensory perception, you may be more talkative, more creative or motivated. How much these areas are enhanced can depend a lot on expectations. If expectations are high and one has experimented with stimulants like caffeine, they may be severely disappointed.
There is a third factor that may determine whether or not adrafinil may work better in some then others. If you are a naturally sleepy person and have trouble keeping focused, you may notice and extremely beneficial result. On the other hand, if you are already great in those areas but just want an extra boost, then adrafinil may disappoint you. This doesn’t mean that you will not get a boost but your mileage can vary based on how your brain is “wired”.
Adrafinil can have great nootropic effects in some and sub-par effects in others. What you get out of it will depend on several factors. Expectations and prior experiences with classical stimulants is the biggest pitfall in first time adrafinil users. Metabolism is another important factor in the speed and strength of adrafinil onset and one can be disappointed if they expect a quick timeline for adrafinil to deliver desired effects. Lastly, your own individual brain chemistry can play a role. Are you already a focused and driven person? Or do you find it hard to stay focused and motivated even if you try your best? A lack of certain neurotransmission in individual brain chemistry can play the most important role in whether or not adrafinil can work as expected.
